The term McCarthyization refers to the practice of eliminating anything that is believed to be controversial from a student's writing. The goal is to make the essay more pro-forma, making it more accepted by the review board.
The McCarthyization argumentative essay topic has many different aspects, depending on the type of school you go to. Much of the time, it doesn't mean anything. In fact, if you're someone who engages in debate in an argumentative way, this McCarthyization will allow you to write at a higher level and get good grades. The best argumentative essay topics are those that challenge the reader to think. However, there are instances when the practice of eliminating controversial material can make an academic writing a lot harder. There is no way to eliminate one without introducing an argument from the other side. Your research should include the value of preserving the controversial material that makes your thesis statement stand out from the other arguments presented. It may also be necessary to set your topics such that the debate is in the main idea, not just the lines. McCarthyization can be a damaging practice if you don't take the time to set the tone of your essay. Your tone, whether it's conversational or serious, should have a specific focal point, but it should always be short and simple. You can also do something called proofreading, where you simply read your essay over until you've found the areas where the content might need updating. It's not a good idea to panic or create panic when doing this. Keep a calm demeanor and stay focused. If you are working with a McCarthyization, make sure that your own opinionis clear. By clear, I mean, that you only have to be able to state the facts and not speculate. It's fine to include some speculation, but you want to avoid over-generalizing the facts. McCarthyization is not ideal for all writers, so you can make your argument and still be persuasive if your style is one that creates interest and leads the reader to believe that your opinion is the right one. Your academic writing should flow naturally, and you should be able to modify it to fit your own style and perception of what's right. If you need to have several opinions, make sure you give them enough attention to create an interesting debate. All in all, I think that McCarthyization is a lot better for the academic writing process than it is for debate, or argumentative writing. At the same time, you want to avoid making it so extreme that you aren't even going to take the time to create a topic.
